For the past year, I have been keeping up with two high school friends' blogs, so I thought, "Why not start my own?" I figured this would be a great way to keep record of the beginning of a new chapter. So let me get everyone caught up....
I met my husband, Paul, at San Jacinto Junior College in 2000. We transferred to Sam Houston State University the following semester. During the fall semester, I bought Paul a Jack Russell Terrier, which he named Charlie. Charlie has been our "dog-child" from the get go. He has entertained us with his tricks and all that energy for the past 9 years. After I graduated from SHSU in 2003, Paul and I married at Moody Gardens located in Galveston, Texas on June 26, 2004. A year later we bought a house close to my job (Elementary Teacher). I have been teaching for the past 6 years, starting in 4th then 3rd, 2nd and 3rd grade math interventions, 1st grade, and now my school's Campus Math Specialist. I am thoroughly enjoying this new job. I hope one day to have a school of my own.
A couple of years ago, we decided it may be time to start a family. Then I decided to re-enroll into college to get my Master's in Administration. With only a couple of semesters left, I found out I was pregnant. The pregnancy couldn't have gone smoother, until week 24. I was admitted into the hospital for pre-term labor. For the next 8 weeks I spend 100% of my time on "lock-down" aka bedrest. I was bored to tears and scared to death for the health and safety of my little one. At 38 weeks, I delivered Sophie Michelle Chavez, all natural (no drugs). Although she had to spend her first 3 days in the NICU, we were able to take her home the same day I was released. (By the way, I graduated with my Master's a week before Sophie was born)
Over the last 10 months, I have committed to exclusively breastfeeding my child. At times I have struggled with my decision to do so, especially when I miss out on being with my friends or having to wash that dang pump for the 700 time, but in the end, I feel it is totally worth the sacrifice.
Sophie is the best thing that has happened to me, besides meeting my wonderful husband who helped create her. She reminds me each day how precious our time here on earth is. She has allowed me to slow down and prioritize my life. I don't know life without her.
Well, that is what I have been up to for the past 10 years, I will try to keep a month or bi-monthly post.

Well, that was a great summary; I feel caught up already! lol. Glad life is going well and you're daughter is so adorable. I'm finally reaching that time in my life where I am ready to get married and have a family of my own. It's taken me 28 years to meet the man I will marry, but completely worth the wait. Looking forward to keep up with you blog! Feel free to follow mine as well! heathercleavelin.blogspot.com
